Chapter 1: The Weaver
2005.09.22 Hurricane UpdateSecond order of business: My computer is okay, my tablet is okay, and the scanner is okay. I was very lucky; I had the time to pack thoroughly, the means to get out, and my house didn't even flood. Unfortunately, the scanner is still in said house, whilst I am now in Kansas City, MO. (Hey, don't ask me; I don't know why the hell KC is in Missouri, either; maybe they're trying to escape the tornadoes.) What this boils down to is a hiatus, and believe me, I am not happy putting this comic on hold. It will be back, mark my words. Third order of business: I am angry. No, fuck angry--ever since the motherfucking hurricane aftermath, the radio reports of bodies floating in the slums and the feds and state saying fuck the 17th St. Breach, let's give the whole East Bank another nine feet of water on top of the pre-existing flooding, before someone somewhere pulled their motherfucking head out of their motherfucking ass and decided not to give up on the entire fucking NOLA metro area... There are no words to describe this fury. I blew right past angry, through pissed, like a motherfucking bat out of hell beyond furious. I am livid; I am seething; I am motherfucking INCANDESCENT. Charity Hospital, the Convention Center, the Superdome, and the festering shitpiles of lies that officials kept shovelling on as they tried to hide their stark incompetence and outright failure. (As for Mayor Nagin: Somebody give that man a motherfucking medal.) This is not about politics. This is about the stranded, the drowned, the homeless and the abandoned. If you're not angry, you haven't been paying attention. The response to this fucking storm has been sickening. I have no words; there are no words strong enough to describe what happened in the aftermath--or, more accurately, what did not happen. And with yet another massive hurricane bearing down on the Gulf Coast again, I can only fucking pray that the PTB have learned their fucking lesson.
